Suggest Treatment For Excessive Anger After Paralytic Attacks
Question: My father is suffering from excessive anger problem. he keeps on speaking for the whole day and at last his BP reaches to a level of 170/100. although I discussed with few people this BP is common with them but him he gets so much angry on petty issues and even try to slap my mother and wife. at this point of time he doesn't hurt so much but I feel this will increase day by day. I want the medication to control his anger as in past he has already suffered from two paralytic attack and so much of anger and third attack will be very dangerous for him. I am working in XXXXXXX my mother and wife lives at my native place XXXXXXX XXXXXXX (Haryana). when I am not there he gets so much angry with them on small small things and even sometimes slapped them also. this time he gets so much angry that one of my cousin and wife got him admitted in local hospital for last 2 days. I am writing this from hospital only. do suggest the medication to control his anger and his abusive behavior. my father age is 63 years

Excessive anger and irritability in medically stable person can occur in following psychiatric conditions:
-Personality disorder: But personality improve over time. Less likely in this case.
-Psychosis: Usually anger occur with suspiciousness and hallucinations.
-Manic episode: Anger occur with decrease need for sleep, big talk, increase talk, euphoria and grandiose ideas.
-Changes in brain due to damage in frontal lobe due to stroke.
From current information it appear that your father is suffering from Psychosis or Mania, as in such disorder patient frequently need admission due to excessive aggression and violence. It is treated with antipsychotics (Like Ozapine) and Sedatives (Like ativan and clonopam in his case). So, get him treated, as current treatment appear fine to me. Same time his interview will be conducted in hospital to confirm diagnosis and change treatment plan accordingly. Medication doses may require according to improvement/change in patient condition.
It is common to increase BP in anger. But excessive BP do not lead to such aggression.
