I've taken laser hair removal treatment(10 sittngs), for facial hair upperlip, chin and cheeks. But the hair grows back in 3 months.
I dont have any pcod issues, and even consulted endocrinologist. The reports showed normality in the harmones. I'm planning to change the doctor and get treated in anoo's which one of my friend suggested.
Could you please suggest whther its a wise decision?
Thanks
An Endocrinologist's consultation advised to exclude medical cause.
Detailed Answer:
HI Vxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for the query through healthcare magic forum.
I have read your query carefully,
Actually laser hair removal is frequently done procedure to get rid of unwanted hair. Mostly there is permanent hair loss with three to seven sessions.unfortunately you had regrowth after 3 months & naturally are concerned. I understand your feelings.
I would suggest exclusion of few loopholes which might have been overlooked, resulting in the problem. They are-
- One should stop plucking/waxing/electrolysis of the hairs to be treated , at least 6 weeks before laser treatment... as these treatments remove the roots & laser acts by destroying the hair root.
- Exposure to sunlight should be avoided,6 weeks before & after treatment
* If you had missed one of these precautions, you should recheck with the treating person.. and consult him to find some solution.
* another thing, which you had rightly pointed out is about having treatment with expert in laser treatment. In that view I do agree with you, you can very well go & consult an expert.....BUT before that-
* I would suggest to get your physical check up / investigations done to find other possible causes of excessive hair growth. they include-
- Consumption of steroid preparations for other health problem-results in excessive hair growth. In such case, after laser treatment if one continues with steroids.. the hair growth repeated due the drug reaction.( consult your doctor for tapering off the medicine/ getting alternative medicine in it's place.
-Hormone replacement therapy can have such side effect.
- You had already consulted endocrinologist to exclude PCOD/. But some times excessive leutinizing hormone can cause the problem( hyperthecosis). I would suggest to consult your endocrinologist for the same.
-Adrenal or thyroid problems also cause excessive virilisation.
* You need to exclude them with an endocrinologist's advise & investigations.
* Please don't worry, methodical investigations to rule out/ diagnose hormonal imbalance as such followed by needful treatment ALONG WITH expert service for laser treatment should solve your problem en root.
I hope the answer was both informative & helpful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
