Suggest Treatment For Excessive Sinus Drainage

Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: How can excess sinus drainage / post nasal drip be stopped or t least be minimized. My mother also has a duodenum ulcer. Would this contribute to this condition. She takes a ppi for ulcer. I tried to get her on an antibiotic through IV but doctors will not do this. Could this be acid reflux? she takes lovenox shots for clots in legs.

Brief Answer:
You will need to start her on antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello

The excessive drainage is likely to be due to infection of the sinuses and will definitely come down with a course of antibiotics.

It is unlikely that a duodenal ulcer or acid reflux will contribute to this excessive drainage, however you will have to be careful before starting the antibiotics , because some of them may aggravate the acid reflux.

Please discuss this with your ent doctor , he will examine your mother and guide you further.

Meanwhile you can ask her to start steam inhalation 3-4 times a day , which will help reduce the congestion and give good relief.

Hope she gets well soon!

Take care!
