Suggest Treatment For Exfoliative Keratolysis On The Hands
Question: I have recently started having dry, peeling skin on the palms of my hands and between my fingers and dry lips. It's humid here, so dry wintry skin isn't the problem. Any ideas as to what might cause this?
Brief Answer:
Exfoliative keratolysis or Dyshidrotic eczema
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for question.
The condition that you were describing is called exfoliative keratolysis, in which outermost layer of skin is peeled off due to various factors. It could be stress, environment ( kitchen work, detergents etc).
We generally prescribe creams with urea and lactic acid to prevent peeling. Moisturizer is key. if this doesn't help we give strong steroid creams.
You can chose a preparation from local pharmacy with urea and lactic acid with the help of pharmacist there.
Hope this is helpful.
