Acne vulgaris
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
Based on your description, your son is most likely suffering from acne vulgaris. Based on severity the first line treatment involves topical retinoids, antibiotics ( erythromycin, benzoyl peroxide) and oral antibiotics ( Minocycline, azithromycin ) . If there is good response then extended topical application is continued with or without oral therapy for at least 6 to 8 months. Oral isotretinoin is reserved for severe cases and shows very good results in resolution of the acne. In severe cases antibiotics and topicals alone fail to resolve the lesions in a sustained manner and there are frequent recurrences. Please consult a dermatologist for further management in this regard as OTC medications dont work in severe acne.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
