Suggest Treatment For Fatigue, Severe Shoulder And Knee Pain
Question: I have had high platelets for over 2 years, and now I have high WBC, high MCV, high gran and low MCHC.
My symptoms are extreme fatigue, and random pain in knees, ankles and occasional severe pain below left shoulder blade. I am over weight, and out of shape. My iron levels and b12 along with Ferratin levels are all within range.
My dr doesn't seem worried my platelets have been high however with everything else being out of range makes me think further testing should be done.

I have reviewed your information and the attached results sheet.
From the information, it seems we may have been dealing with a possible excess production of blood cells.
However, the report shows that these values are more borderline and do not really need aggressive investigation at this time. I might be of the opinion that you were somewhat dehydrated at the time this blood sample was collected. If you have results from previous testing, kindly share with me for comparison and more insights.
In all, I'm not worried and will not advocate any aggressive investigations at this time. If you have the past results, please share with me for comparison and trend analysis. If you don't, I will suggest a control sample in 3 months.

Added older blood work. I believe I have 1 more set I should be able to get tomorrow.

High platelets going on for two years already means we need to investigate more. I will ask that we look at the platelet cells directly under a microscope to understand the form. If this shows nothing abnormal, I will suggest that we get a bone marrow biopsy.. This will allow use to look at where the blood cells are produced to understand exactly what is going on.

Thank, the amount of time of the high platelets is what has me concerned as well. I hadn't planned on letting my dr avoid further testing to see why it's high, there has to be a cause. I am still waiting for her to get in touch with me, I thank you for your input and will let you know what course of action she is taking.
