Question: 3 year old child developed fever then doctor advised imol and relent. But we just managed to give him imol and he fell asleep before taking any food or relent dose
He then woke up and did potty in his pants and has done vomits about 3 times
We gave 5 ml relent medicine but he immediately vomited it. If we give any fluids he vomits . right now he has fallen asleep again but I am worried about his next bout of vomitting and fluid loss. How much of vomitting is OK before I should take him to doc in the middle of the night

Brief Answer:
Give the child ORS. Give Ondansetron to reduce vomiting.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have carefully gone through the details. It seems that your son is suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. Usually the cause of such an infection resolves on its own irrespective of use of any antibiotics. But the mainstay of treatment is to maintain the hydration. Rather than rushing the child to a doctor in the middle of the night, giving ORS or oral rehydration solution is very essential. You can prepare it by mixing a full XXXXXXX in the designated amount of water. Give it sip by sip. You can give a dose of Syrup Ondem (Ondansetron) prior to feeds so that the child does not vomit. No amount of vomiting is normal. But if you can maintain the hydration, you would not need to worry. The hydration status would be identified by the number of times the child passes urine. If the frequency comes down, or if the child is excessively thirsty, it could be due to dehydration. In that case you would need to take the child to the emergency of a hospital with pediatric facilities. But you can easily continue to provide ORS till then. Fever needs to be managed by the use of paracetamol or imol. Relent contains a mucolytic along with an antiallergic and can be given. Do not worry if the child goes to sleep. But lethargy is a warning sign to look out for.

Hope that helps.
