Suggest Treatment For Fever Blisters In Mouth

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: I have had cellulitis twice in the last three months on my arm and leg. Now I have a fever blister in the corner of my mouth and it looks like it is spreading down my face. I am taking the med my doc gave me for the fever blister but don't know if that will help with the sore if it is cellulitis. Do I need to go to the doctor? Will tomorrow be soon enough?

Brief Answer:
We need to rule out Herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

what you've described seems like herpes labialis. Uploading a picture would help a lot!
If it's herpes indeed then this not a life-threatening condition but early treatment will reduce disease duration and symptoms. Acyclovir by mouth is adequate treatment for this condition. Other treatment options include famciclovir and valacyclovir.

If it's cellulitis (which is unlikely judging by your description) then treatment is urgently needed. Cellulitis needs to be evaluated in person by a doctor and antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment.

I hope I've helped!

If you'd like further information, please let me know. The picture would help a lot.

Kind Regards!

I can't seem to upload a picture. I will continue to use the Acyclovir. Thank you for your reply.

Hi,

acyclovir treatment would be fine.
