Suggest Treatment For Fever, Cough, Pressure In Head And Severe Tinnitus

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: For the last week I have had a fever of 101.00 and a bad cough and head pressure. I have finally gotten rid of the fever, but I am nauseas and have diarrhea and pain by my kidneys. My tinnitus is also much worse than usual and the head pressure is worse. I have barely eaten in a week and have gained some weight. Any suggestions as to what is going on? I can not go to my regular doctor until the first of the year due to insurance issues. Just really sick of being nauseas and the train running through my head.

Hello

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.
I can understand your concern.

It would be really helpful for me if you can explain these few points:

1- In what part of head are you feeling pressure?
2- Does is get worsened if your head put your head on floor like prostration position?
3- Do you feel that your ears are blocked?
4- Are you drinking good enough water?
5- Are you having burning urination?
6- How did you get rid of fever did you use any meds or it subsided by itself?
7- Do you have any blood pressure issues?
8- when you were having fever did you have flu body aches and nose blockage as well?
9- Is your tinnitus new or old?
10- Do you have history with ENT issues like nasal bone issues, sinus issues or tonsils?

If you can please answer these question i can help you in a better way.

What's going on with you:

According to available data , your history and how it has progressed, in my opinion you had upper respiratory tract infection with flu and it also involved your sinuses.

HEAVY HEAD:
Sinusitis is what causes head to get heavy because they are always draining fluids but outflow tracts can be clogged and it stops draining fluids so gets heavy.

TINNITIS:
There is a hollow tube extending from ear to above the tongue in pharynx this tube needs to be patent to maintain pressure of middle ear which is concerned with hearing in flu and upper respiratory infection this tube gets clogged sometimes and its blockage cause pressure imbalance in middle ear causing tinnitis to get worsen if you had runny nose of nose block or flu symptoms ...this is most probably whats happening.

In this situation you should feel ears being blocked or heavy and you can try to do "valsalva maneuver " and you will feel your ears popping open.

Diarrhea:

can cause reduce water in body and this reduced water can cause kidneys to pain i will suggest you to drink more water.Nausea can well be due to Digestion upset because of which you are having loose stools as well.

Conclusion:

It seems to be Upper respiratory tract infection, with sinusitis and blocked ear (eaustachian tubes).
Please respond back with answers of my questions and any information you want to add after reading my opinion i will be happy to help you get better understanding and relief out of this situation.

Brief Answer:
your answers mostly in YES tell me that my idea about the problem was right

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back with such detail it is really helpful, I put forward some direct questions because your symptoms are very typical of upper respiratory tract infection with sinusitis and ear block. And your answers ,mostly in YES, have made it more clear to me, now i will try to help you out in this and will also try to make you understand what's wrong.

What happened:
You got bad cold with fever and blocked nose and blocked sinuses ...you started on tylenol and your body with time recovered from infection and body defences got better of the bugs which caused it but the blockage of sinuses and ears is still there which is causing your head to get heavy and that's why it gets painful when your blood flow increases as your head goes below level of heart, this same issue is causing your tinnitus to get worsened.so this was detailed answer of your question about what happened to you.

On the other hand you got diarrhea probably due to meds or some other reason may be stress or some germ this made water in your body to get reduced and your kidneys started paining.

What you need:
For this you actually needed a complete ENT or atleast a G.P checkup or may be an x-ray of your sinuses and examination of your ears for signs of blockage but as you mentioned you can not have checkup as yet so i will try to mention some treatment options i can come up with to atleast reduce the agony you are in.

What can be done now:
Now i will try to give you some treatment options and i will try to mention both meds and house hold options because not having a prescription is definitely a problem.

For kidney :

i can understand your concern about your kidneys here i can pretty much assure you that they seem to be fine at the moment keep drinking water and yes you can use cranberry pills for this issue, they help. But please don't be anxious about kidney they seem fine.

For Tinnitus:
Please try doing Valsalva Maneuver it may unblock your ears ,try it and see if it works you can also get steam inhalation through nose to tray opening your clogged up sinuses and ears.
You can do valsalva maneuver thrice a day if you find it helpful dont do it if you ever had hole in you ear drum.

Medication required for this issue in my opinion:

If i were your treating GP:
I would have examined your nose throat and would get an oblique of your sinuses, and would see if it needed medication of intervention.
In meds I would have recommended you clarythromycin 250 mg twice a day(or atleast amoxil or augmentin 500 mg twice daily)
A decongestant like pseudo ephedrine twice daily
and brufen or tylenol.
and an antihistamin.
But i am not sure what is available with you at the moment.

House hold remedies which can be tried:

1-Steam inhalation.
2-Taking warm steamy shower helps sometimes.
3-Take green tea twice a day and keep drinking water it will help to thin out mucus clogged in your nose and this will help your sinuses and nose to get better draining.
4-Use warm compresses, place it at your forehead and cheek prominences. It will soften blockages in your sinuses.
5-Over the counter nasal decongestant can be used.

Conclusion:
1-I have given you a list of meds if you can get any med from the list(over the counter or you already have it or in any way else) atleast take that.
2-Try home remedies.
3- Don't worry about kidneys
4- Drink good water
5- Eat fiberous food like XXXXXXX bread and vegetables.
6-Please don't panic ,anxiety is effecting your blood pressure and also making you feel tinnitus more.
7- Try valsalva maneuver
8- It will take time but hopefully your problems will reduce much if you follow my advice.

If you have any more queries i will be happy to help you, if this answer was satisfactory please rate the answer and close the discussion.Wish you the best of health.
