Question: Hello. I wanted to ask something. My 3 year old child since the 23-rd december is a little sick. She had a fever till 37.6 centigrade and than a lot of cough. The next day I took her to the doctor that told it was a virus that coused this and she has had that kind of temperature every 6-8 hours and today she has been better with cough and other symptoms but now her body temperature was raised till 38.2 centigrade. I gave her tachipirine but I wonder why her body temperature is bow raising? Thank you

Brief Answer:
I agree with your doctor and won't get worried as temperature is declining

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to HCM

I have read your query and do understand your concern.
Most common cause of fever with cough in this age is some viral infection. In viral infection the frequency and severity of fever remains high during first 2-3 days and then it starts declining. It may take 6-7 days for complete subsidence of symptoms.
So according to symptoms you have described so far,I agree with your doctor as it seems to be due to some viral infection.
As I said it may take 6-7 days for complete subsidence of symptoms and mild grade fever may recur during this period.
Sometimes fever with other symptoms may bounce again due to secondary bacterial infection and here fever remains of high grade with poor general health and other associated symptoms.
So in your child case I won't get overly worried as cough has also decreased and child is otherwise active and playful.
If you notice any abnormal symptoms or reappearance of high garde fever with lethargy/irritability consult your pediatrician for evaluation.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more queries
