Suggest Treatment For Fevers And Chest Pain After Vomiting

default
Posted on Thu, 10 Apr 2014
Question: Hello, Monday evening I was not feeling well and threw up my dinner. I woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. Since then the fever has stayed with me, between 99-100.7. I have kept it at bay with Ibuprophen, none of that seemed unusual, other than I haven't been sick like that for about 5 years. The problem is a severe pain in my chest when I try to swallow food or even water. I can get food down but not without a sharp pain. The pain is there even without eating or drinking anything but much duller. My girlfriend suggested Ginger Tea which has seemed to help short term.

Brief Answer: Can you describe the pain a bit more? Detailed Answer: Hi! Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. I'm sorry to hear about your fevers and chest pain. Right off, i would really like to ask you to be a bit more specific about the pain in your chest. What part of the chest hurts the most? Is that sharp pain associated with bloating or belching? The reason i'm asking all this is that Gastritis (acid causing inflammation and swelling in the stomach) is a pretty common associated problem when a person is sick and taking lots of Ibuprofen. There are other causes too, but the Ginger tea (which is a great digestive and Acid Blocker) makes me think even more along these lines. There are lots of medications you can take for Gastritis to control it. Over the Counter meds like Ranitidine, Famotidine and Omeprazle (all of these are generics, you can go to they pharmacist and they can get you the brands that are available) What I would do in this case is start taking one of these acid blockers for about 2 or 3 days. If I got relief.. GREAT! If not, then i'd probably get to my Primary doctor as soon as I can. I hope this helps! Feel free to follow-up whenever you would like and I will do my best to help. Take care and thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic.com
