Suggest Treatment For Fibroadenoma

Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, last march I was diagnosed with fibroadenoma, had a biopsy done to conclude that. In august I went in for a second opinion because the lump had gotten larger, this time with just mammogram and ultrasound, the dr. diagnosed as fibroadenoma. Went to the same clinic yesterday, the lump has now gotten so big that it protrudes, especially around menstrual time. The ultrasound specialist seemed very alarmed at its size. I will be going in next week to schedule to have this lump excised. Is it normal for benign fibroadenoma to get so big! She didn't tell me the specification as to how big it has gotten, but my guess is about 4cm x 4cm.

Brief Answer:
Fibroadenoma can get very bigger.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

To recapitulate : Female / 45 - diagnosed fibroadenoma last March- confirmed by biopsy - August - second opinion for enlargement of the lump which protrudes around menstrual time - mammography and ultrasonography done - Specialist alarmed at its size - diagnosed as fibroadenoma again - same clinic - lump to be excised - Wants to know whether the fibroadenoma can get so bid 4 by 4 cm -

Yes, the fibroadenoma can get to a very big size. It is known to have ''giant fibroadenoma '' in some patients where the size of the full breast is just fibroademona.

Get the lump excised in-tot, meaning complete removal for two reasons:
1. you get rid of the mass which is not normal for the body.
2. you get confirmed histopathology report.

Once the nature is confirmed as to whether this is benign or not your worry gets dissolved too.
