Question: I have noticed a fishy odor during sexual intercourse. I am too embarrassed to tell my doctor. Is there something I can buy over the counter to take it away?

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear!

Thanks for your query.

Fishy odor is caused from an infection called bacterial vaginosis(BV). This infection do not create problems but often after intercourse it can cause fishy odor.

By use over the counter creams cant help you.
If you would have come to me for treatment, I would have prescribed you metronidazole 400 to 500 mg twice a day for 7 days Or 2 grams as a single dose is enough.

Do not treat partner because BV is not a STD.

All the best
