Suggest Treatment For Fluid Retention In Fingers

I am a 30 yr old female. For more than a year now I have been experiencing the following sypmtoms:
-fluid retention especially in fingers
-difficulty losing weight
-sudden onset of snoring
-tight feeling in throat
- hair loss and weak fingernails
I have been to the doctor who ran some standard tests - blood count, kidney and liver function and they were all normal - what could this be?
thyroid conditions,heart conditions, idiopathic oedema.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Since you have run some tests and liver function, kidney function and blood count are normal ,several possible causes like anemia, kidney disease have been excluded.
You seem to have symptoms of fluid retention like swollen fingers, difficulty losing weight ,snoring.
Symptoms of fluid retention and hair loss, weak fingernails can be caused from thyroid disease.Hypothyroidism can cause such symptoms.
If your doctor hasn't tested yet your thyroid function ,I would suggest to get it tested.
You should test : fT3,fT4 and TSH.
If these tests are normal means that your thyroid gland is working properly and it is not the cause for your symptoms.
-In this case I would suggest a complete evaluation of your heart with ECG and heart ultrasound. This because heart condition can cause fluid retention.
If your heart is normal ,then there is no apparent cause for our symptoms.
In this case idiopathic oedema is an option. This is a condition when fluid retention in present but the person is healthy and no apparent cause is found.
In this case you may need to restrict the salt intake and eat foods rich in potassium to reduce the fluid retention.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to help.
Kind regards,
