Suggest Treatment For Fractured Cartilage In Ankle And Fibromyalgia

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I fractured the cartilage in my ankle last July. We initially thought it was a sprain I was on crutches for a week and then in a ankle brace for about 2-3 months. At that point the pain had gotten worse not any better so I got an MRI and doctor saw that it was actually an ocd of talus. He put me in a boot for 2 months and after that I slowly worked my way back into things and did just fine. Everyone in a while I would have pain and Recently I've started to have constant pain for about two weeks now and no new injury or accident. I also have a bit of fibromyalgia but those episodes usually occur when I'm cold and never never last longer than a day or two and I take cymbalta to help with that. So I guess my question is should I go see my orthopedic surgeon or assume it's fibromayalgia?

Chronic Pain syndrome

Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

Well, it is possibility you have developed REgional Pain syndrome. It is a syndrome where one develops pain in the area of trauma even after the healing has taken place. Considering you have a background of fibromyalgia, these sort of regional pain are quite common.

Ankle being the weight bearing joint, is always under pressure to take the body load. So any sort of injury prolongs it s healing

I would suggest you can consult your GP and consider starting on Pregalin or Gabapin for a short duration to break the pain cycle

Hope the information was useful
