Suggest Treatment For Fractured Wrist

Question: I have to have surgery for a fractured wrist and my Dr is putting an external fixator but told me a cast goes over it and if it swells don't call him because it has to stay on ten weeks but my pain management Dr who was an orthopedic surgeon said a cast should not be placed because that's why the fixator is stabilizing it and you risk infection. He told me it would cover the fixator and that would be uncomfortable and I should get another dr.What's your opinion?
Brief Answer:
no cast should be applied
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think there is no need to apply cast if fixator is there, It is harmful also. Because fracture is fixed with fixator and cast does not offer any added advantage. Rather in cast there is chances of tightening, infection.
So i think you need only fixator. If you want any more information then share your present x rays also.
thanks
