Posted on Thu, 19 May 2016
Question: My wifes had urinary frequency and bladder irritation for almost 3 months.
Shes seen gynocologist and urologist and had a lot of testing done and still nothing showes up.
She also says her urine smells strong and she complains of acid reflux and a bad tast in mouth.

Her testing is below

CM PANEL - glucose 83, BUN 14, GFR 93,
creatine .80, sodium 137, calcium 9.4
AST 24, ALT 31.

URINALYSIS - PH 5.5, glucose, blood and protein negative. Bacteria moderate, casts (none seen).
NOTES - urinalysis normal with moderate epithelial cells.

RENAL ULTRASOUND - kidneys normal size and echogenicity. Right kidney 11.7 cm
Left kidney 10 cm. No lesions, hydronephrosis or calculi. Bladder empty.
Impression - kidneys normal

CYTOSCOPY - normal.
PELVIC EXAM - normal
Bladder and vaginal cultures normal showed no infection.

All these tests and labs are between 30-60 days ago.

Antibiotics from primary did nothing for symptoms.
Urologist says shes never had infection.

What could be going on?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to acidic urine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Urinary frequency and bladder irritation might be due to more acidic nature of the urine.
To prevent this, give her more and more fluids per day.
Avoid acidic fruit juices like lime juice, orange juice, etc.
Plenty of cranberry juice will help in reducing the symptoms.
Examine the external genital area carefully for any injury and rashes.
The acid reflux can be treated by taking antacids and medicines like Omeprazole.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Did all her tests and labs look good? Her local doctors never found anything and her urologist said its possible interstitial cystitis but she said doubtfull because cytoscopy had no inflamation.
We are wondering at this point what it could be.
Her initial symptoms were more external type burning without visible signs of irritation.
She thought it was a yeast infection.
I asked her if it could be an STD.
I know she would never admit to it if it was and she would very likely deny it until she got very sick.
Im concerned if that was a possability that she could damage herself trying to hide it.

Brief Answer:
Can eb a nerve related cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The lab findings are normal. The burning could be due to a yeast infection or a local nerve related cause. This can happen due to mild nerve root irritation at the level of spine also. Taking methylcobalamin supplements or medicines like Pregabalin might help. STD is not likely.
Hope my answer is helpful.
