Question: 3 1/2 weeks ago got uti. given 7 days 500mg. cipro. seemed ok after 7 days but after 3 more days, symptoms still there along with back pain. dr. gave 7 more days of cipro. took for 3 days, back pain worsened and mouth was dry and got cold sores. dr. then gave me levaquin 500mg. have taken for 5 days and still have frequent urination, bladder pain, and back pain. I've had very dry mouth this whole time but don't feel thirsty. tongue looked like thrush so I got lozenges to treat that but dry mouth still there. tongue feels like it's been burned. it's sunday and I have 2 more days of levaquin left.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Since you have been on prolonged course of antibiotics , you probably have thrush as you suspected. You could also take Nystatin for the thrush.
If your UTI has not responded to such a long course of antibiotics both of which are quinolones, you may be having an infection resistant to quinolones. It would be better if you have a urine culture and sensitivity done, find out the organism and the antibiotics to which it will respond. With the right antibiotic, uncomplicated UTIs respond well and fast.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

I'm taking Clotrimazole for thrush and it's helping somewhat. would thrush also cause dry cracked lips?

I'm worried about back pain. it's gotten a little better but still there.

my urine sample showed uti. I will call my dr. tomorrow and get specifics on bacteria and get correct medication.

thank you

Brief Answer:
You are welcome.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, thrush can cause cracked or fissured lips. You can apply Clotrimazole on the lip.
Back pain may be due to UTI or a musculoskeletal pain. It may be better to have it investigated if it persists.
Wish you a quick recovery and good health.
