Brief Answer:
Toe nail fungus sometime stays
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.
I have seen the photo. Yes it is ok to let the toe nail fungus to stay that long. In fact the type of lesion that you have does not really get cured. In fact, while trying to cure it, you may take medicines that may do more harm than good.
Let me know if you have more doubts.

The fact that the toe is now swollen is what concerns me, could there be a secondary infection?
Brief Answer:
Yes there seems to be
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Yes there seems to be some secondary infection. Especially the fluid filled areas around the nail. I would suggest to clean it up with hydrogen peroxide and clean water. Then apply some antiseptic solution and cover it. Avoid injury to the nail. Repeat the process daily for 4 - 5 days. It should clear up. If systemic symptoms like fever, weakness etc appear then oral antibiotics may be needed.
Hope it helps.
