Suggest Treatment For Gastritis While On Celebrex

Eating the wrong things, going to sleep after main meal-supper may have added to problems. In one month I am scheduled for a knee replacement. Had no Family doctor for 5 years but am on a list to be accepted. What to do so I can safely proceed with surgery and aftercare?
Life style modification, minimal hospitalization and being active.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. As it is a mild form of gastritis, I think you can continue with ranitidine. If it does not come under control, you can switch over to proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole. It will completely get your gastritis into control.
2. You will be under multiple medications during and after surgery and will require medications against gastritis. Your doctor will definitely prescribe at that time.
3. Modifications in lifestyle, like preferably avoiding medications before food, avoiding spicy foods and also moving around a bit and being in upright position immediately after food will be helpful.
4. Not sure about your weight, but if overweight, weight reduction through swimming, water aerobics, cycling along with diet will help.
5. Hope your hemoglobin is normal. Get your hemoglobin and blood pressure checked. Also check the blood pressure in relation to posture. As there is a problem of lightheadedness, postural hypotension will require evaluation.
6. Family doctor, will helpful to you on a day to day basis. Once you are accepted, he will be able to help you better.
Being active during and after surgery is very important. Avoid any risk of infections or any complications, which can prolong your stay in the hospital. Minimal stay in the hospital is advisable. Interaction with friends and family during this stage is very important.
Post surgery, regular physiotherapy, medications, diet modifications is essential.
Hope it helps.
