Suggest Treatment For Gastritis

Question: My husband is in severe pain and unable to eat due to Gastrtis. An US ruled out cholecystitis, pancreatitis, etc. h pylori was negative. I am really concerned that the lack of food is not helping. He is not nauseous, vomiting or having diarrhea. Can you suggest anything that might help? I was wondering about Ensure or a similar supplement, but know he has to avoid gluten, fat, etc.
Anything at all in terms of guidance would be gratefully accepted. He has not had a meal in three days and very limited before that for a couple of weeks. We think the root cause was NSAID Use for back pain.

Brief Answer:
Following treatment for gastritis advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone the medical history of your husband carefully and am sorry for the situation he is in.
From what you are describing, it seems that he is suffering from gastritis. The symptoms he is having are due gastritis.
You are also reporting that he is having a gluten free duet. At this point, I need to know if he has been suffering of food intolerance too? If this is his case, food intolerance is to be excluded then.
I advise to :
- continue with current diet changes
- start taking PPIs (omeprazole, pantoprazole, etc)
- take antacids after meals
I also advise to schedule upper endoscopy for further evaluation.

Thank you so much for your timely reply - we agree totally that an Endo is necessary. No, he doesn't have any food intolerance, but going on line said to avoid gluten, fat, lactose, caffeine, spices etc. Our biggest issue now is providing some sustenance. What to eat is more the issue. Do you have any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
Following foods to eat when having gastritis...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
I am happy to know I've been of help.
With regards to foods, I advise to continue the changes you have already implemented: by avoiding gluten, fat, lactose, caffeine, spices, chillies.
He can eat:
- toast
- soups
- boiled veggies
- eat more foods high in anti-oxidants (e.g. fruits like berries)
- drink more water
- consume more foods high in flavonoids (e.g. apples, celery, cranberry, etc.)
Getting more physical activity (including walking) can be of help.
Let me know if I can be of further help!
