Suggest Treatment For Gouty Arthritis In The Big Toes
Question: I have, in the last week or so, developed classic symptoms of gout in both big toes. It didn't last very long--24 hours or so. I use no alcohol, drunk no sugared beverages, am not over weight. But do have three things that may attribute to it. I work two jobs & am short of sleep, I have chronic hives, and I take an over-the-counter pill for low iron. I donate blood on a regular basis--usually "double-red". Any thoughts? Thanks, XXXX YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
It is metabolic disease.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
You have Gout in both big toes. You are not alcoholic,Don't take sugared beverages and are not overweight.
Gout is a metabolic disorder and all these factors , you have mentioned do not contribute to gout as a disease. Control of these factors may decrease acute exacerbation but are not the cause of Gout.
Gout requires life long medication and physical activity. It has certain phases when there are no symptoms but the control is only by Serum Uric Acid levels.
Hope for a good and lifelong control.
