Suggest Treatment For Grown Out Wisdom Tooth With Severe Pain
Question: Hi,
My wisdom tooth has partially grown out and partially touch the jawbone. (The molar one). A couple of weeks back i got severe pain. Got it checked, was told infection & was prescribed antibiotics. Now its 7th day since I am on antibiotics. Though the situation is better but the pain still persists on opening mouth. Also past 3 days there is some lump sort off a thing, which moves when i touch my tongue back & forth. How long does it take to cure infection? Why would this lump happen?
I have been advised to get the wisdom tooth out but only once the infection subsides.

As far the pain, limited mouth opening and soft tissue lump is concerned, it is due to the infection of the gums around the wisdom tooth. It is called pericoronitis or pericoronal abscess. The lump is nothing but a pericoronal flap around the wisdom tooth.
The orthopantomograph which you have uploaded shows, the reduced space or no space for the wisdom teeth to erupt bilaterally (both the sides) since it is covered with bone on the distal aspect (back side).
The pain will not reduce by the medicines; medicines are temporary solution. The permanent solution is to get the wisdom teeth removed under local anesthesia. If I am your treating doctor, I would suggest you to get all the wisdom teeth prophylactically, since they are not in an ideal position to erupt and these teeth will not help you in any function.
Consult an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and get the teeth removed under local anesthesia.
