Brief Answer:
Haematoma has to be drained.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for posting in health care magic.
Haematoma of 20cms X 10cms has to be drained.
I have seen cases of long standing haematoma getting infected.
DVT is commonly seen in prolonged immobilised people. As you are doing routine normal activities, you may not get it.
Please consult your Surgeon and get it drained.
Nothing to worry. It is a simple procedure
If you have any queries, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

They seem to reject the idea of drainage, what type of specialist should i refer to such a procedure?
Brief Answer:
You can consult a Surgeon.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
A small haematoma will get absorbed.
But it is difficult for a 20cms X 10cms haematoma getting absorbed.
Ultrasound of the area may show fluid along with some blood clots.
I will give a incision over the swelling, drain the fluid and clots to my patients with similar complaints.
Please consult your Surgeon and get it drained.
Nothing to worry. The procedure is simple.
Wish you good health.

My dr is unwilling to proceed further until another 3 weeks have elapsed, should i be applying ice or heat until then or leaving it alone totally? Im also concerned with the edema in my foot and ankle of the affected leg.
Brief Answer:
You can apply ice pack.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
You can apply ice pack over the involved area.
The affected limb should be kept in elevated position to prevent edema.
So, wait for 3 weeks and proceed further.
Wish you good health.
