Brief Answer:
Consult a Dermatologist for diagnosing the cause
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
Thanks for posting your query on this forum.
Firstly, I feel you need to know the commonest causes of hair fall at your age :-
* Severe Dandruff (called Seborrheic Dermatitis)
*
Fungal infection of the scalp and hair roots.
* Thyroid problem (
under-active thyroid)
* Severe mental stress
* A disease called
Psoriatic Dermatitis (a disease due to abnormality of body's
immune system).
Success of the treatment depends on identifying the exact cause. It would be ideal to consult a Trichologist (hair specialist) or a Dermatologist to examine your scalp and take a scrapping of the scalp skin and analyze it under the microscope to identify the cause.
However, pending consultation with a Trichologist/Dermatologist, I would suggest the following course of action:-
1. Get your thyroid hormone test (Thyroid Profile) done to rule out/diagnose
thyroid problem. If found positive,
hormone replacement therapy will stop
hair fall.
2. If you have severe dandruff, wash hair daily with anti-dandruff shampoo.
3. Apply Haloderm Scalp Lotion daily at bedtime, over the hair roots x 1 week;
thereafter, every alternate day x 1 week; then twice a week x 1 week -->
stop.
4. Wash your hair daily in the morning with 2%
Ketoconazole shampoo for a
month; thereafter, use it every alternate day for one month.
These measures will take care of dandruff, as well as, suspected fungal infection of the hair-roots.
5. If you are passing through constant mental stress, a regular course of anti-anxiety drugs to curb mental stress will help in reducing hair fall.
6. You may also take half a Tab of
Dutasteride (DUTAS 0.5mg) daily at bedtime for 6 weeks and see the response. If there is no response, you may stop it.
Irrespective of the advice given above, I will recommend that you consult a Trichologist/Dermatologist.
Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
Take care,
