Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in.

I have read through your query in detail.

I come across many patients like your mother regularly and the symptoms are controllable and treatable.

You mother needs to consult a qualified psychiatrist. It is important that a family member accompanies her so that all the problems can be discussed in detail. The psychiatrist is a doctor who will take a detailed history of the problems and also examine your mother. She will be asked simple questions to know more about her thoughts and behavior. She will also be given simple tests to judge her mental abilities. If necessary a CT scan brain may be asked for further evaluation.

It is important to make a proper diagnosis based on her symptoms. Mental illnesses are of many types like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, mania, depression, personality disorders.

Treatment is available initially in form of medications that may be needed to be taken for a few months. See should follow up with her doctor regularly as it takes time to get treated completely.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
