Question: Good Morning Doctor
My wife started complaining of strange things(probably hallucinations)which I never heard and finally visited her gynaecologist who directed us to a Psychiatrist. He gave two tablets Serenace and Pacitone for twenty days. My wife used this course only for ten days and started arguing that she is not a mental person and does not need medication.
After one month she had the same problem. When I visited the Psychiatrist he wanted me to continue the same medicine for twenty days.I tried to powder the tablets and was finding it difficult to mix them with water. Then he has suggested Sizdon one ml liquid to be added to water and given every night for thirty days.I have been doing this for the last twenty nights, and see improvement.
But the doctor does not tell me the future plan as I plan to go to a different city for my business leaving my and kids in the place where we are now. I am very much worried as I love her much though she keeps fighting with me after this problem started. She suspects that I am doing something to her mind.I humbly request you Sir to please guide me. Thanks XXXX YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
The drugs should be continued for at least 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Though the history you have mentioned is not a detailed hsitory but her symptoms suggest hallucinations. Such symptoms are seen commonly in psychosis. The drugs she was advised Sarenace or Haloperidol and later Sizodon which is Risperidone are antipsychotic drugs.

As she was refusing to take medicines so Sizodon was given because the drug is available in tasteless and odourless preparations. Normal doses are 1-2 ml liquid mixed with food and in most cases improvement occurs in about 4 weeks. I usually advise my patients to take medicines for at least 6 months post remission of symptoms. So as per my opinion she should be given the drug as per her prescription for 4 weeks and then if possible take her to a psychiatrist for re-evaluation and then continue the drug for at least 6 months. This will surely help her to come out of psychosis.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care, Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.
