Suggest Treatment For Headache, Cough, Chest Congestion And General Malaise

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Jun 2015
Question: A week ago I had a very unusual day long headache. It subsided the next day and I felt a bit run down, but went out and cycled 25 miles. That night it went to heavy coughing for a day, then chest congestion, general malaise and today, feeling bad with interim chills and light fever. Coughing up green/yellow flim. Concerned with pneumonia-had it my youth, associate I was with eight days ago has been diagnosed with it, and I have moderate asthma (which has been bad the last week-1/2 dozen hits on emergency inhalor plus regular Dulera dosage). First time sick in five years.

Note that I have been feeling moderately sick all week but I still have a decreased appetite. No vomiting or nauseu.

Brief Answer:
respiratory infection; clinical examination needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and it looks like a respiratory infection. Respiratory problems are mostly diagnosed clinically and hence a clinical examination is mandatory to rule out other causes and come to a proper diagnosis. So i would suggest consultation with a physician or a chest specialist. He/she would be able to give specific management. Also a chest Xray PA view is advised.
If such a patient came to me, with specific treatment, I would also suggest bed rest, warm saline water gargle, paracetamol tablets for fever and chill, continuation of inhalers and other daily medicines. A mucolytic cough syrup can also be given if there is significant cough.

Hope this was useful.
Regards.
