Suggest Treatment For Heavy Post Menopausal Bleeding

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: i am experiencing Post menopausal bleeding. The bleeding is distressingly heavy . For most of my younger life, periods have always been very heavy and continued for almost 8-9 days. Had all the tests possible but all were thankfully negative. My doctor had to resort to a DnC on 2 occasions to help me stop the bleeding when it went on for more than 20 days. My instinct now is to sit it out and let the bleeding cease on its own. Even this time my doctor examined me internally and confirmed there were no polyps in the vaginal passage. I do want to avoid anymore invasive tests/teatment. Pls advise.

Brief Answer:
Uterine scan is mandate is in your case.Cautious approach is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I understand your concern.

I have gone through your query in detail.

Postmenopausal bleed, considering your age is an extremely important warning symptom.

It has to be seriously evaluated to rule out malignancy.

DnC is not an effective measure. You have not headed in the right direction so far.

Neither you can allow the bleed to stop by itself.

Vaginal polyps are extremely rare causes of postmenopausal bleed. There are several other common causes of the uterus which need to be ruled out.

Forerunner causes can be fibroids or adenomyosis. The risk of endometrial cancer is always high, considering heavy menstrual cycles in the younger life.

Hysteroscopy is not needed at the moment.

But Transvaginal sonography with endometrial aspiration biopsy is the standard investigation which you need to go through without fail.Neither of them is significantly invasive tests. Both tests are extremely patient friendly under experienced doctor hands

It's mandate that you consult a Gynecologist and discuss the need for above tests.

Further management is largely based on the test results.

In many cases, a cure can be offered if uterine abnormalities are diagnosed and treated early.

Do NOT delay further.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.
