Suggest Treatment For Hematemesis While Having Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Question: I am a caregiver for a patient with AML lukemia. She has now begun vomiting up blood. What does the vomitng mean in relation to her life expectancy?
Brief Answer:
not directly linked to life expectancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Life expectancy depends upon the overall prognosis of the disease. I guess that is not good as you have mentioned that no further treatment options are available.
In a patient of terminal aml, bleeding is expected as the platelets are low. If the bleeding is severe, it can be fatal within even a few hours. But if the prognosis is not good, there is no point actively treating this with blood and platelets support.
Hope this helps.
