Suggest Treatment For Hematoma On Shin
Question: Hello I just came home from work and my husband who is intoxicated is laying on the couch with a bump the size of a tennis ball on his shin just below the knee. I can't tell if its serious and he is just not feeling the pain right now or if it looks worse than it is. There is a huge scrape in the center of it so I can tell he fell pretty hard. I'm wondering if I should take him into the emergency room or wait till tomorrow.
Brief Answer:
if it is not increasing in size then can wait
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
Your husband is mostly got a hematoma at his shin following the trauma.
As he is not having pain, so you can wait, provided the lump is not increasing in size. you can continue application of cold packs. Also apply some antiseptic cream over the scrape in the center. And give him painkillers when he feels pain.
It will slowly resolve over a few weeks depending upon the size.
If it is increasing in size or there is redness over or arround it like infection, then you need to show him to a physician.
Hope i have been helpful.
