Suggest Treatment For Hemochromatosis
Question: I developed a condition called hemochromatosis after breaking out with porphyria cutanea tarda in 2006. It was not pleasant. After a few more tests for Hep C and HIV. HIV being negative, but hep C was positive. Likely got this back in 1993. My iron levels were HIGH so they performed 3 phlebotomies which of course helped how I felt.
My question is...will it get to a point again where I need a phlebotomy again? Is this actually the treatment that docs use? I haven't had any blood letting done since 2007. XXXXXXX

Hemachromatosis is a condition in which there is iron overload. to tackle this you need iron chelating agents. You need to check with your doctor if you really need to take the drug. There are iron chelating drugs are available in tablet form for oral use.
Phlebotomy is needed only if you have a very high hemoglobin content. if your Hb. is high yrs you need phlebotomy.
