Suggest Treatment For High BP And Breathlessness

Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: In Jan2016 during night I got high BP with shivering, sweating and breathless XXXXXXX I went to medical center they checked the BP which was 189/100, did Blood sugar test which was normal and took ECG which was also normal. They advice me to do exercise for atleast 30 min daily. After that I was normal but recently on April 17 again I felt a bit uneasy with shivering and breathlessness I went outside for a walk and felt better and then went to bed for sleep. After 2 days I measured my BP which was 149/90 and later I am monitoring it regularly it is around 120-129 / 80-90 range. During that week I did not have good food and lot of stress due to long travel daily. I came back to my home after that trip and checked with doctor he told me it was probably due to stomach Gas as I only had milk with oats during whole day. He also took ECG and ECHO and it was normal. I just want to confirm if that is fine as I am little worried. Doctor told me it is due to stress and I have normal BP after April 16.

Brief Answer:
follow the advises.. maintain a healthy lifestyle..

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome to HCM..

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Now at this age(37 yrs) with no significant medical history, cardiac pathology is very unlikely (which rightfully showed in your ECG and Echo too).. so no need to worry about them..Can't comment on homeopathic medications though..

However, most of your history does seem like panic attack, I'd like to ask you few more details :

Can you remember eating anything unusual before those episodes of attacks ?

Are you allergic to any particular drugs/foods/pollen/dust/any particular plant/smell ?

Yes stress can trigger the blood pressure to shoot up high so it(stress) has to be managed aggressively..

Avoid Caffeinated beverages as much as possible , also try to stop smoking (if you do) as they can trigger it like anything..

Now panic attack can be pretty serious problem too, so it is needed to be controlled right at the beginning..

To do so you need to fix up an appointment with a Clinical Psychologist for in patient session to overcome it to the fullest..

It's a quite treatable condition, so nothing to worry, there's lot of recent advances has been taken place i.e. Cognitive behavioral therapy is the most effective one, if done timely in regular fashion , will help you to overcome it without help of any medications(however it's the Psychologist's decision whether to put you on any low dose of SSRI during the therapy session)..

Stay happy, and don't take stress as your Doctor has already advised, however since this is happening repeatedly I'd suggest to you to please check in to the Psychologist for the comprehensive analysis as well as therapy..

Don't worry, you'll be fine within a period of time only..

Let me know if there's any further doubts, i'll be glad to guide you..

Take Care
Kind Regards
