Question: i am 30 years old and i was found to be hypertensive. My height is 5 feet and 9 inches and my weight is 105 kg. My cholestrol is 183. I have high uric acid of 7.5 for which i am using foxstat 40. My BP is generally 150/90 mm Hg. Once my BP shooted upto 210/140 and now i am on medication with amlopres 5 mg and minipres 2.5 mg twice a day. I am only vegetarian and stopped smoking, non alcoholic. Upon asking a doctor it was told 150/90 or 150/100 is normal BP for my body. Is it true? suggest me how i can lower my BP to 120/80.

Brief Answer:
Cut down the weight will bring BP under 140/90

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

With the stats stated you seem to be in obese range. Extra fat in the body will not allow the blood vessels to recoil leading to high blood pressure recordings. So I would blame the high BP readings on the Obesity.

The current recommendations for a hypertensive patient on medication is to bring the blood pressure under 140/90. Since you are already on good amount of medication I would just suggest you to cut the weight by 10 kg that will bring the blood pressure below or equal 140/90. Adding more antihypertensive medications without weight management will always keep you under risk for future BP worsening. Hence weight reduction will be my first advice to you. You should take professionals help if needed and cut down weight.

The cholesterol is fine the uric acid was high at 7.5. Since you are already on medication I would not interfere there.

The way forward for you is to cut the extra fat, watch for diet, keep diet diary, stay away from processed food, all sugar, white bread, white flour and white rice and excess salt.

Please ask me more details if you need.

Brief Answer:
You can exercise after passing through a tread mill test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You can exercise after passing through a tread mill test.

It is exercising under controlled conditions. It is a test with ECG on while you exercise the doctor will be able to assess your heart rate, rhythm while you exercise. He can say whether you are fit to exercise or not after TREADMILL TEST (TMT).

Please undergo this and then start exercising. Meantime you can cycle or swim to reduce weight.
