Suggest Treatment For High BP While On Amlodipine

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017
Question: I was seen in the ER two weeks ago for high blood pressure of 207/135. The doctor did some blood tests and a ct scan of my head. All were normal. He increased my coreg from 6.25 mg taken once a day to 12.5 twice a day. He also gave me hydralazine 10mg to take if levels reach 160/100. I saw my primary care doctor and he gave me amlodipine to take at bedtime. Tonight my blood pressure readings have been really high. 220/131, 204/128, 210/120 191/111, 204/115. Ive taken all prescribed medicine today as well as two hydralazine. What could be causing these high readings that medicine wont control? Ive had hypertension for 23 years but it has never been this high before. Can you give me any suggestions for what i need to do?

Brief Answer:
These Blood Pressure reading needs Hospital Care

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

After going through the medical details provided you i completely understand your concern and i would like to tell you that with this much high blood pressure you should be under medical supervision in a hospital as IV medication are needed to effectively control this much high blood pressure before it causes damage to other vital organs of the body or at worse causes a STROKE.

If presently also your bp is this high then its advisable to call for a medical help or visit an ER as early possible. If your bp is under 150/90 mmHg then i would like to advise you to get one RENAL ARTERY DOPPLER STUDY done to rule out any RENAL ARTERY STENOSIS that a common secondary cause of hypertension.

You should discuss with your treating doctor regarding the option of starting you on an ACE INHIBITOR like RAMIPRIL along with AMLODIPINE and a DIURETIC combination.

Along with that you need to follow healthy lifestyle habits and dietary control (Low Salt Diet). Stop Smoking completely (if you do).

I hope this information will be helpful. Feel free to ask if you have any more queries.

Kind Regards
