Brief Answer:
Titration of the drug & basic tests suffice often

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

In most people, heredity (inheritance) is the cause.
Extensive investigations may reveal a cause in a in a small minority of people - but the process is very cumbersome and not cost effective
Basic investigations like kidney function (blood test and/or ultrasound) / electrolytes (especially potassium), ECG are usually done in all cases
At times, hormones (Cortisol, Thyroid, Catechol amines)may be done. especially in the very young or difficult-to-control cases
Tests like sugar and Lipids (Cholesterol etc.) are also done to evaluate associated morbidity

Maximising the dose of the given drug is the first step
A second or even a third drug are often needed in most people

The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Good luck
