Question: Liver Function Test: SGPT/ALT: 60; borderline high cholesterol. Is this normal? Dr. said it is nothing to worry about but watch diet.

Brief Answer:
yes

Detailed Answer:
Your doctor is likely right, as long as you have been tested for all the potential causes of abnormal liver tests, and the only thing that came back abnormal besides your SGPT/ALT was the cholesterol.
High cholesterol, likely due to poor dietary habits, can lead to fat accumulation in the liver, which then leads to inflammation, and therefore abnormal liver tests (such as the ALT). This is the most likely cause if you are also overweight. It is particularly common in diabetics. therefore the treatment is to control your diet and lower your cholesterol, and lose weight through diet and exercise.
Drinking alcohol may cause elevation of liver tests. Chronic viral hepatitis is another common problem (such as hepatitis B and C), so you should be tested for those. Also autoimmune hepatitis, iron overload, copper overload, and other rarer illnesses are potential causes of abnormal liver tests. Medications can also increase liver tests, so make sure your doctor reviews any medications you take on a regular basis (even herbals or over the counter)
Hope that helps, let me know if you have further questions or concerns

Is 60 extremely abnormal? Are there any malignancies that could show 60 or would it be higher if it were something that serious? What other liver tests should be run?

Brief Answer:
no

Detailed Answer:
it is not extremely abnormal. the upper limit of normal is around 40 -45, depending on the lab, so it is just slightly elevated
Other regular liver tests include AST, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, albumin. The rest of the testing are to determine the cause, and your doctor will be able to tell you which ones you need depending on what has been done.
