Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query,
I have read through your query, and can certainly understand your concern,
Presuming this is the first time you have noticed a rise in cholesterol value for your mother, and taking her age into consideration, I would suggest her to do the following:
- a daily minimum brisk walking for about 45 mins is mandatory, so as to burn the excess fat
- need to start on a cholesterol management diet which involves substituting high saturated foods for low fats. Use oils containing good fats like olive oil, canola oil.
- take more of fruits and vegetables, and less of carbohydrates and starch.
For now, I would not suggest to start on medication as a total lipid profile is needed. Do these necessary lifestyle changes for a period of 1-2 months. Also check your serum cholesterol every month.
If it does not seem to decrease despite the lifestyle changes, she might need the lipid profile done and then started on medicines accordingly.
Please feel free to discuss further or else kindly close and give your feedback,
Regards
