Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Pain In Stomach
Question: Hi, My child has high fever for 3 days now and every 6th hour his temperature starts increasing. His body weight is 14.5 kg. Doctor has prescribed him wikoryl 3.5 ml TDS, ibugesic plus - 5 ml TDS and augmentin DDs -3.5 ml BD. Is this dose ok as i just noticed that ibugesic and wikoryl both has paracetamol content? Also he is complaining about pain in stomach quite frequently. Could you please advise?

Most often such fevers are due to viral cause and irrespective of the use of antibiotics, it takes 5-7 days to recover. In the meantime use Ibugesic Plus as well as tepid sponging to bring down the temperature. The required dose for a child of 14.5 kg would be 7.5 ml per dose. It is to be given as required but at a minimum interval of 4-6 hours between doses. Since you have started Augmentin DDS, you should complete the course of 5 days in order to avoid development of antibiotic resistance. But probably that was not required in the first place.
The stomach pain is due to gastritis which can commonly be caused due to Ibugesic Plus. Be sure to give it in full stomach. Also give Lanzol Junior tablet once daily before food. As of now, some antacid would help. You need not give Wikoryl.
In case the child becomes lethargic, you would need to rush the child to a hospital without delay.
