Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Severe Leg Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jun 2017
Question: My grandson just spend approx. 10 days in the hospital fighting a high fever. The diagnostic conclusion after much study (strawberry tongue, fever, full body skin rash) - the symptoms may indicate Kawasaki disease, so the Doctor's suggested Immunoglobulin Therapy - after 2 treatments and waiting 36 hours each time, his fever terminated. That was very happy news, he is going to see a cardiologist tomorrow to analyze his heart and circulatory system. So we are following his physician's plan. However, he has been waking at night since returning home complaining about severe leg pain. My wife who is in his room says he awakes from a deep sleep crying out about the leg pain. Any thoughts or suggestions from past experiences?

Brief Answer:
Part of syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Kawasaki disease is a acute febrile vasculitis syndrome of childhood that can be sometimes very serious.
Cardiac complications in untreated patients occurs in approximately 20-25% patients but after immunoglobulin therapy it decrease to 5%.
Cardiac complications include Coronary artery aneurysm(dilatation of artery of heart) & blockage inside the artery of heart. Diagnosis is by Echo & ECG. So your grandson should go for a echo.
About the leg pain, this syndrome causes erythma & oedema in extremities. Patients generally experience diffused pain in major joints of leg & arm which gradually go away with time. So it is a part of illness.

I pray for your grandchild good health & early recovery.
Thanks & take care
