Suggest Treatment For High Fever In A Child
Looks like viral illness and diarrhea - stop antibiotics and NSAIDs
Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics (LIKE CEFIXIME) at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Regarding diarrhea - It seems your kid is having viral diarrhea. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.
Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
MEFTAGESIC CONTAINS MEFENAMIC ACID WHICH IS A NSAID. IT CARRIES THE RISK OF GASTRITIS AND RENAL PROBLEMS IN THE LONG RUN. PLEASE DO NOT USE MEFTAGESIC.
Puffiness of the eyes could be could be due to using of Ibugesic and Meftagesic both of which are classified under NSAID group of drugs.

Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
Kid is not passing urine since 12 hours and even not active since 12 hours. He is sleepy and not interested towards even water as well. Anything serious? How to make him urinate
He needs only breastfeed and if stopped, he starts crying. My concern is whether medicine can be continued with only breastfeed and how to make him eat something.
Also whether i can put Powergyl for loose green stool or else any other medicine with dosage
Thank you once again for quick response
If not passed urine for 12hours, he needs intravenous fluids
Detailed Answer:
Hi....I understand your concern. If he has not passed urine for the past 12 hours and not active, that means he's dehydrated.
My suggestions -
1. Hospitalize him as he will require intravenous fluids.
2 No need for powergyl as it's also an antibiotic.
3. Not passing urine could be due to either dehydration or due to Meftagesic. He needs t be we hydrated.
4. I suggest you to get a renal function test done to see how the kidneys are functioning.
5. You can continue Paracetamol and zinc supplements only with breast feeding also. No problem.
