Suggest Treatment For High Fever, Vomiting And Diarrhea In A Child
Question: My son is 6. He had a high fever (42 C )for 6 days, vomited and diarrhea for 5 days, huge rash on his entire back and chest, and He has been vomiting green and having clay colored diarrhea with intermittent abdominal pain for 12 days. Went to ER and were told he had two back to back viral infections and to go home. No testing done at all - he just lays on the couch. This has been almost a month of no school or activities for him. Help!

Viral infections can be associated with rashes as in this case. The number of possible causative viruses or viral strains ranges in hundreds and so it is no use testing for them unless there is some specific indication. Moreover, viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and irrespective of treatment yo will have to wait for spontaneous remission which usually occurs in a week or so. Hence, I would insist you to be patient. things should soon be fine back again.
As of now management is symptomatic. Give paracetamol or acetaminophen to bring down temperature. You may apply calamine lotion over the skin for topical relief.

Is it really normal for a six year old to vomit and diarrhea for 17 days???
