Question : My daughter is having high fever from last 3 days with heavy cough and cold. I am giving Meptal-p and crocin DS. Should i start anti biotix Cefixime or clamo forte now. Please suggest which anti biotic i should start.

Majority of Respiratory tract infection are viral in origin and self limiting. Sometimes secondary bacterial infection sets in which is obvious by purulent sputum or discharge, antibiotics are beneficial in such cases .

You can safely start Cefixime, dosage is 5 mg per kilogram per dose twice a day. Please note that this is a prescription drug and you need to get it prescribed by a doctor. Apart from this I would suggest you the following

1. Normal Saline Nasal drops : 3 to 4 drops in each nose 6 times a day

2. Steam inhalation : Preferably using electronic steamer. Maintain safe distance from the baby.

3. Make your daughter sip 1 spoon of honey with 2 drops of fresh lemon juice added thrice a day.
