Suggest Treatment For High Heart Rate During A Stress Test
Question: I am 59 years old and just had a thallium stress test a few weeks ago with the results showing no exercise induced schema. Great news as I have stents in my heart from 10 years ago. When taking the test my heart rate gradually went up until I max'd out at 153. I was on the treadmill for almost 14 minutes during the test. However the last 2 times I have exercised at the gym my heart rate went up within a minute or two to above 140. I had to reduce the intensity just to get my heart rate down to 140. After 20 minutes at this level I didn't even work up a sweat and felt that I didn't get a workout. I wore a chest strap the past day or so and found my heart rate goes up extremely fast even just walking up stairs. Any insights?
Brief Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM, I think you are ok.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM, I think you are ok. I feel the chest strap created pressure and caused your heart rate to go up. Can you tell me the reason for wearing one? Personally I am against strapping the chest. Besides putting pressure on heart and lungs it can also cause GERD. You can revert back--regards
