Brief Answer:
Medications depend on heart functions like echocardiography and enzymes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing into health care magic.
This is Dr.Riyanka, glad to answer your query.

I have read through your query in detail.
It is good that you are following a strict fitness and diet schedule. A total cholesterol score of less than 180 mg/dL is considered optimal. Since your cholesterol level is 250 mg/ dL therefore you need medications along with your diet and fitness plans and your doctor is suggesting the same.

At your age of 62 years, it is best to get a complete heart check up done and also do ECG and echoardiography done to know the proper functioning of your heart. Cholesterol levels tell the risk of heart disease and it means that more cholesterol can cause heart problems earlier. It is important to take medications and also proper diet and review cholesterol levels every 6 months or annually.

If your echocardiography is normal then a decision can be taken by your cardiologist on the further continuation of medications at your next visit. Your doctor might also ask for cardiac enzymes and then decide on your medications.

I hope i have answered your queries.
