Suggest Treatment For Hot Sensation On Body After Stopping Birth Control Pills

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I have been having this hot sensation throughout the day for months, since I got off my birth control pill at the end of Dec. my normal body temperature was always cold, so now I feel so hot, even though my temperature is not over 98.4%. I want to know what is going on with me. I have been to numerous doctors, and have had vials of blood taken, with no answer. I have seen a rheumy, endo, reg doc, gyno, and I have had ct scans of chest, abdomen, ultra sounds... its all to give me no answer. the rheumy is basically writing it off as fibro. I don't feel comfortable w this, and I still feel hot daily. I feel fine at rest, but during the day, I feel hot. I also have an unusual armpit shoulder blade pain, and its making my armpit tender and sore. what can this be? help!!!!!

Brief Answer:
Can be due to raised testosterone.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The feeling of hotness in the body during the day is likely to be related to change in the hormonal balance. You have mildly raised testosterone levels. This can also cause the hot feeling. A raised metabolic rate can also be responsible for this. It is not worrisome.
The pain in the armpit and shoulder blade is likely to be a muscular pain. This will improve with rest and mild pain killers. Doing a hot compress and applying local analgesic gel will also help.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

It can be? So your not certain? I feel hot throughout the day and my eyes burn as well as my throat. I cannot take it any longer. How do I get rid of this? Also do you think this can be something more serious? Please help

Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (29 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Blood test will help in ruling out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Toxoplasmosis can only be ruled out after a blood test. Since your symptoms are persistent it is better to get a blood test done. Any serious cause is not likely.
Hope my answer is helpful.

What is that and why are you suggesting this? I have been feeling like this since feb. Please let me know how you feel with this that you stated and what happened to high test?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Sorry to confuse you.

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to confuse you. This answer was meant for another patient who is pregnant. The symptoms you have are related to high levels of testosterone. A chronic viral infection also needs to be ruled out. It is best to consult an endocrinologist for detailed evaluation. It is not related to any serious issue.

I went to an endo. The results I posted were from the endo I saw and she said nothing to me about the high test levels. Why doesn't it say anything about feeling hot and high levels online? How certain are you of this and how can I change this??
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Can be related to the raised free testosterone levels.

Detailed Answer:
The rise in free testosterone levels is usually associated with PCOS. This can cause metabolic problems also.
In your case there is a mild rise and the symptoms that you have may be related to this rise. You need to have a low fat and low carbohydrate diet and indulge ion exercise daily to keep your metabolism correct. This will help you feel better.

I had a pap smear and it's all normal per my gyno. What is pcos ? Also how else is this corrected besides diet? And by looking at my blood work is the low ferritin any concern to you? I just don't understand why no one else mentioned the High test levels being the cause ?? Please explain metabolic and test
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (48 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
PAP smear is not related to PCOS. It refers to polycystic ovaries that is associated with metabolic imbalance and formation of multiple cysts in the ovaries. This can be detected on an ultrasound scan in case you are having irregular periods. Low ferritin levels are not worrisome. You can take iron supplements to correct this.
Dietary modifications is the best method to correct this. If there are no other symptoms then no specific treatment is needed. You can take Tylenol for symptomatic relief.
High levels of free testosterone can be a possible cause.
Metabolic disorder occurs when abnormal chemical reactions in our body disrupt the normal metabolism like in diabetes or hormonal problems. Do take care of your diet and see if it helps.

let me explain how I feel, sorry to keep talking about this, but its been pretty bad. I mean, not too bad where I cant handle it, but I just don't feel myself and I hate it. I stopped taking reclipssen at the end of dec, so beg of XXXXXXX I was off birth control pills. I didn't get a period in XXXXXXX or I don't consider it a period, bc I bled for one day, and I didn't get a period in feb. I got my first period off the pills in march, and then I immediately started on another birth control pill after my last day on sunday. right now I am on LOmedia. I am not sure if this is good or not, but my skin has been breaking out ever since I stopped the reclipssen. I have acne all over my back and on my face. my hair thinned out on top, but is looking a bit better now. when I wake up, I automatically have this weird feeling, I feel dizzy at times, and I feel like I always have that allergy hay fever feeling. from the morning to when I am at rest. when I am not running around, I feel fine, because I am resting. I don't know how to explain this. last night I was at the mall after work, and I started to get that hot feeling inside my head, and I am breating out hot air, and my lips are hot and behind my eyes are hot and they got red. I really just need to figure this out. the whole dizzy thing is starting to freak me out. I sometimes get a headache when feeling like this as well. will the ct scan show if I have any cysts on my ovaries? also, if all my hormone levels are ok on blood, that does mean I am ok? Or can my body be off without this showing any levels being off, as I was on birth control for about 10 years. how long will I feel like this for? should I get back on the first pill I was on to see if it helps stop this? I don't want too because I don't want rely on the pills. but I don't want to feel like this either.
thanks
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Stop taking pills to improve symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
The symptoms and dizziness that you have can be due to Lomedia also. The increase in acne is related to raised free testosterone levels.
The cysts can be detected by ultrasound scan and an MRI scan of the lower abdomen.
Even if all your blood levels are normal, the symptoms can be related to the side effects of the birth control pills.
Either you stop taking the pills for at least 3-4 cycles or you can resume taking the pills you were taking earlier. It will help.
Regards.

Doctor, I guess I am just confused by all of this. I didn't know this pill was bad for me when I started taking it. It is completely ridiculous that I cant even stop the pill to feel normal. If I start taking reclipssen again, and I want to have a baby soon, at the end of this year, then what do I do? I don't want to go through this again. This is terrible and I am so sad by all of this. So you are saying to stop Lomedia as this is not helping me ? But when I was off the recplipssen for the one month or close to two months, I didn't feel any differwent. how long does this take to improve? I am worried I have something more going on and they haven't been able to tell me. do you think something more and what do you suggest I do from this point on?

Can this possibly be related to me having some sort of food intolerance? or allergy to certain things I am eating or drinking? I don't know what else it can possibly be.. and I read online that some food intolerances can cause burning eyes, and adrenal fatigue. who would be the doctor to help me with this? a gastro?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Can be due to food intolerance.

Detailed Answer:
Since you have been taking a pill for last 10 years it will take 2-3 months of pill free period for you to feel better. Do consult an infertility specialist if you want to conceive. Try to monitor your cycle length and duration without any pills.
It is not something serious. You can stop the pill after this cycle. Food intolerance also need to be ruled out. A gastroenterologist can help you for this.

Ok so what are you suggesting I do? Stop the pill completely and start the other one or stop and don't take anything? I did this and no change happened after so I started this other one. Did I not wait long enough!? This is starting to get frustrating. I feel like I am jumping from one thing to another. why can't someone just tell me one thing that's causing this!? Can this be pcos because of my test levels?? And can this be something with my adrenal ? What do I tell the gastro when I see him??
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (36 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
I feel you should stop all the birth control pills.

Detailed Answer:
I feel you should all the birth control pills completely after completing this cycle. This will help in diagnosing PCOS also in case you have it.
You did not wait long enough after stopping the first pill for the symptoms to subside.
You can tell gastro about the symptoms you are having and the suspected cause to be food allergies. He can then guide you regarding the investigations that are needed.

so the only thing that you recommend is dietary modifications? This cant be anything else that all of a sudden I feel hot after I stopped my pills? Should I get back on the pill that I was initially on so I don't have to feel this anymore? and why would I feel like this from stopping a pill? it makes no sense to me. have you seen or experienced this before? I have my ultrasound set up for tomorrow to see if I have pcos. If I do, can I get the cysts removed? what do I do from that point if I do?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (33 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Dietary modificatiosn are the best option.

Detailed Answer:
Yes. Right now dietary modifications will help.
The feeling of hotness is related to the pills. It is better to be on a pill free period. But if you feel necessary and your gynecologist recommends then you can take the pills you were having earlier.
The hormonal changes after stopping the pills can cause these symptoms. In case you have PCOS then it is best if treated medically. While taking oral pills for so long, the PCOS is likely to be masked. It can be properly diagnosed only after stopping the pills.

I am just really freaking myself out right now. I have never felt like this before and its scary to feel like this and not know why. it takes over my life, even at work! I want to feel my normal body temperature.. not hot all the time. So stopping a birth control can make you feel hot? So i am on this other pill now, and i was supposed to get my period today and i haven't yet. i know this can take time to adjust , but i still don't have it. I will stop birth control all together after i get my period. I will be getting my ultrasound tomorrow to see if i have pcos. I am just really worried. can this be something worse? i am really not a good person to not worry, as that is all i have been doing.. and trust me i try not too. i guess you can also say this has been depressing me. i don't even feel like doing things anymore, and i am tired as well. so you suggest to stop taking all birth control pills and do what ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (37 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It is not something serious.

Detailed Answer:
You are too much worried and stressed out. It is not something serious. Just relax. The periods will start in next few days. Stop the birth control pills, get an ultrasound scan done and inform in case any abnormality is detected.
You can do some mind and body relaxation exercises like deep breathing and yoga. Anxiety and stress can also cause such a feeling of being hot. Increase your fluid intake and relax.
