Question: Im scared i have a brain tumor!!

When i was 16 i started to feel my equilibrium go "off" just for a split second or two and i looked it up online and read that it sounded like BPPV. This didnt happen every day, just occasionally. I still get this (now 26yrs old) every once in a while.

I have been having auditory hallichnations since summer 2011. In january 2012 i mentioned this to my doctor and had a CT scan of my brain that was normal.

In the past few months, ive had a couple of XXXXXXX vu experiences and just recently ive had a couple of occasions where i felt a mild burnig pain/sensation from my throat rise up into my nose, cheeks, and eyes.

Ive heard these can be symptoms can be seizures. And im TERRIFIED that i have a brain tumor!

I had a regular endocrinologist appointment to check up on my thyroid (i have hashimotos) and i had him do a neuro test and he said i passed with flying colors.

Can you ease my mind regarding a brain tumor? I have hypochondria/health anxiety and am very worried. I do get tension headaches that are usually relieved by tylenol/ibproufen or caffeine, but again im very scared. Thank you.

Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

Yes, you are right, you have hypochondriasis. It is also known as health phobia or health anxiety refers to excessive preoccupancy or worry about having a serious illness. This debilitating condition is the result of an inaccurate perception of the condition of body or mind despite the absence of an actual medical condition.

Whatever symptoms, you have mentioned, are due to hypochondriasis. In that case, you should consult a psychiatrist for proper management. You need few antidepressant like duloxetine or fluoxetine that would help to decrease such thoughts in mind. You can also take some psychotherapy in form of thoughts stoppage technique or relaxation exercise that would help to control anxiety associated with such thoughts. Better to consult a psychologist for psychotherapy.

In case, you need further help, you can ask.
