Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism, Heart Palpitations And Fluttery Feeling Behind Sternum

Question: I'm a 57 year old female in good health. I exercise 6 days /week (60 minutes of cardio 6 times a week and lifting 4 days per week). I have hypothyroidism and take levothyroxine .80. My mother died of a pulmonary embolism when she was 74 and my sister died a year ago at the age of 58 from a cardiac "incident". She was a heavy smoker and very stressed. For the past 4 days I've been experiencing a fluttery feeling behind my sternum ( and a strange hollowness when breathing) that kind of comes and goes. It doesn't feel like shortness of breath and I've been exercising as normal. When this first started I was woken up in the middle of the night with a rapid heart rate (around 67 when my normal resting heart rate is about 47).I had
wore a heart monitor a year ago because I was experiencing heart palpitations, also had an echocardiogram and EKG and cardiologist said I had some skipped beats, but no more than what he himself experienced. Should I go back to the cardiologist, could this be lung cancer (I've never smoked in my life and don't live with/nor ever have lived with a smoker). Thank you

Brief Answer:
Contact your cardiologist, no symptoms for cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX!

I have read very carefully your query and understood your concerns. What you are experiencing may be related to cardiac problems. Moreover you have familiar history for cardiac events.

This is why I recommend contacting immediately your cardiologist. If you were my patient I would suggest doing the following examinations:
- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Chest x ray
- Stress test
- Holter monitoring

This examinations will help to find the right diagnosis. If normal you don't suffer from any serious cardiac problem.

Your concerns aren't suggestive for lung cancer and a normal chest x ray is necessary to tule out lung cancer. No other examinations are needed.

Hope this was of help!
