Question: I just had a blood test. It shows that I have Cholesterol 267, HDL 41, Triglycerides 210 and LDL, calculated, 184.
Am I really in trouble for bad heart condition?
What all the terms above mean?
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Hypercholestolemia
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Your blood reports shows that you have increased total cholestrol and triglycerides, however your HDL is within normal limits.
HDL means high density lipo proteins
LDL is low density lipo proteins
These are different types of lipids present in our body, high HDL is good for the heart but high LDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol is bad for the heart and its vessels.
It is true that individuals with altered lipid profile are more predisposed to heart conditions however if they are treated well these heart conditions can be prevented and the treatment is simple and very effective.
Here is what you should do
1. Atorvastatin with fenofibrate is the ideal drug for you. It has to be taken once daily at night
2. Avoid all junk food. Especially ones that are rich in oil, fat and cheese.
3. Cardio exercises in the form of ealking, jogging and cycling atleast for 30 min every day comes highly recommended
4. Repeat lipid profile every one in three months for dose changes
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
I wish you good health
Regards
