Question: I feel my 8 months old baby is having teething pain. Her gums are red and swollen. She has started eating and has 1 tooth in her lower gum. For the past 2-3 days she is very cranky and not at able to sleep for long time.
I am giving calpol daily (4-5 drops , once in the night) but seems like that is not enough.
Can you suggest some medicine which can give her some relief?

Brief Answer:
try ibuprofen

Detailed Answer:
HI
Thanks for writing to us.
Teething does cause pain.
If calpol is not controlling the pain you can try giving ibuprofen syrup.
I usually prescribe around 2.5 ml of ibugesic once or twice a day.
This could releive the pain.
Also try teethers which can help in soothing her pain.
Make sure you clean the teethers everytime before giving to your baby.
Don't worry.
The pain should settle soon.
Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
